Balladoole – Ground Mounted Solar Feasibility

Updated June 2026:
Work is continuing to explore opportunities for ground-mounted solar across a range of potential sites on the Island.
Initial site screening and early-stage feasibility work is underway, including site visits and technical assessments to identify locations that may be suitable for further development.
At Balladoole, planning assessment work has been completed. The project is currently on hold while discussions continue regarding alternative use of the site.
Next steps:
- Completion of early-stage assessments across shortlisted sites
- Identification of preferred locations to progress to the next stage
Updated March 2026:
Following submission of the prefeasibility study, we’re preparing for the next stage of scoping at Balladoole which will include an ecological appraisal. This work will examine the site’s ecological suitability and help shape options for a future ground mounted solar development. Balladoole remains a potential contributor to our solar rollout strategy.
The aim is to deliver ground mounted solar generation at Balladoole, next to our Balladoole Sewerage Treatment Works in Ramsey, supplying electricity directly into the Island’s power system.
