Sulby Reservoir – Floating Solar Feasibility

Floating Solar Panel

The aim is to deliver a floating solar farm on Sulby Reservoir, supplying electricity directly into the Island’s power system.

Updated June 2026:

Early feasibility work is ongoing to assess the potential for a floating solar installation at Sulby Reservoir.

Preliminary ecological and water quality assessments have been completed, with further environmental surveys, including bat monitoring, now underway.

Next steps:

  • Completion of feasibility and environmental assessments
  • Review of findings to determine whether the project should progress

Updated March 2026:

Work is moving forward on the feasibility of a floating solar array at Sulby Reservoir. Ecological and water quality assessments are now in progress, with specialist surveys due for completion over the coming weeks. These studies will help us understand whether floating solar can be safely and sensitively deployed at this important site as part of our larger solar ambition.
