WORK STARTS ON FIRST ULTRA-RAPID PUBLIC EV CHARGER
Published: 17 July 2026
Work has commenced on the installation of the Isle of Man's first ultra-rapid public electric vehicle charger at Douglas Sea Terminal.
The new charger is capable of delivering up to 160kW to a single vehicle and forms part of Manx Utilities' ongoing investment in the Island's public EV charging network. Once operational, the site will retain its existing charger, increasing overall capacity to four charging bays.
Demand for public charging continues to grow, with 476 charging sessions recorded across Manx Utilities' public charging network over the last seven days.
Chair of Manx Utilities, John Wannenburgh MHK, said:
"This is another positive step in strengthening the Island's charging infrastructure and supporting the growing number of people choosing electric vehicles.
Douglas Sea Terminal is one of the Island's key transport gateways, making it an ideal location for our first ultra-rapid public charger. This investment will provide drivers with faster charging and increased capacity at a busy and important site.
We are pleased to see work under way and look forward to bringing the new charger into service later this month."
Subject to programme progress, the charger is expected to become operational by the end of July.
