Manx Utilities has once again this year donated a quantity of litter pickers to Beach Buddies who carry out essential voluntary rubbish clearances for our Island’s coastal locations in addition to assisting with the clearance of rubbish footpaths, parks, glens and plantations.

Chairman of Manx Utilities, Minister Tim Baker MHK said, “Manx Utilities has committed to bring clean beaches to the Isle of Man by eliminating raw sewage to sea.  We are delighted to assist Beach Buddies and their volunteers with essential equipment that helps achieve this important role.”

Minister Baker reflected on the work undertaken at Balladoole in recent years.  “The 2006 Bathing Water Directive normally looks at 4 years’ worth of water quality data. Since the Balladoole sewage treatment works has only been operational for three full bathing seasons the analysis returns only a ‘sufficient’ standard of bathing water. I am pleased to confirm that if only the last 3 seasons were used then the Ramsey bathing beach would be classed as having ‘Excellent’ bathing water quality.”

Bill Dale, founder of Beach Buddies said, “This is the third time Manx Utilities has donated litter pickers to us, and we are very grateful for this ongoing support. The litter pickers are a very important part of our equipment, and go down particularly well with the many school children who join us every year.  This donation helps us continue our work all around the Island, and it’s a great example of how Government, the community and charities can work together for the benefit of the Isle of Man and our growing worldwide reputation for protecting the environment."

  • It’s the third year in succession that Manx Utilities has donated a quantity of litter pickers
  • The charity has attracted over 15,000 volunteers since 2013
