Flooding

Manx Utilities is the Isle of Man's Flood Risk Management Authority. We have a duty to provide general supervision over all aspects of flood risk management on the Island. This includes flooding from rivers, sewers, and the sea.

You are responsible for protecting your property from the risk of flooding. Putting in place a few simple measures will help you to be flood prepared.

Current flood maps can be viewed here.

If you require assistance due to flooding please contact the Department of Infrastructure: (01624) 850000. If your life is in danger due to flooding dial 999

Reporting flooding incidents

If you experience flooding from any source e.g. rivers, roads, sewers, fields, in or around your property we would like to hear from you. Please fill out our online flood reporting form. This helps us to build a better picture of where flooding occurs across the Island. Please note: the information you provide is purely for our records to help improve our indicative flood maps.

A joint approach to flood risk management

We are working closely with various agencies to improve the Island's response to flooding:

  • Ronaldsway Met Office - weather forecasting and tidal flood prediction
  • Emergency Planning / Civil Defence – business continuity planning / response and recovery during flood events
  • Manx Utilities - flood risk management schemes, advice and technical guidance, investigating serious flood incidents, consenting and enforcing works affecting flood risk, public sewerage system, designated rivers
  • Department of Infrastructure - highway drainage, temporary community flood protection
  • Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture - Upland catchment management and land management

Flood warnings and information

When the Met Office issues tidal flood warnings for land in coastal areas and tidal river estuaries we will publish maps outlining the predicted extent of flooding for the event.
