Manx Utilities Confirms Resumption of Wastewater Works at Kewaigue to Improve Douglas Network

Published: 17 December 2025

Manx Utilities has confirmed the resumption of the Kewaigue wastewater network upgrade.

In March 2025, Manx Utilities confirmed plans to replace the Kewaigue pumping station—originally built in 1987—with a new gravity sewer along Old Castletown Road and through Heron & Brearley Brewery grounds.

Initial investigation works identified a need to refine the proposed route and as such the project was paused to optimise the design.  It is now expected to restart in January 2026, with completion by May 2026, in time for TT.

The works will address health and safety risks associated with access to the pumping station along with reducing annual operating costs and future expenses.

To complete the work safely, single-lane closures on Old Castletown Road will be required.  These will be kept to a minimum and scheduled to reduce disruption during peak traffic periods:

·         16–20 February: Single-lane closure | Two-way traffic lights | Access to footpaths will be maintained | Scheduled during school holidays

·         23 February–10 April: Single-lane closure | Two-way traffic lights

·         13–17 April: Single-lane closure | Two-way traffic lights | Access to pavements will be maintained | Scheduled during school holidays

Manx Utilities appreciates the patience of local residents and road users whilst it upgrades essential wastewater infrastructure.
