Manx Utilities will only process your personal information if it is lawful to do so. The Data protection legislation sets out various lawful legal bases (or ‘conditions’) which allow us to collect, hold and use your personal information:

  • Where the performance of tasks are required by the applicable legislation  law and regulation to provide and facilitate the provision of utilities (electricity, water, sewerage and flood risk management) to island residents
  • For the compliance with legal obligations of which Manx Utilities are subject (For Example FOI)
  • Due to our range of services, with various options and tariff’s, we will enter into contractual agreements
  • We will retain information for historical or archiving purposes by the Public Record Office under the Public Records Act 1999
  • We will share limited information, like names, addresses and this may also include any sensitive personal information like medical conditions, only if we believe that doing so is necessary to protect your vital interests, or that of another individual
  • We will on occasion use your personal information based upon your consent. We will always tell you where this is the case and ask you to agree before we process your information.  An example of using your personal information with your explicit  consent is where you would like us to add you to our Priority Care Customer Register (PCC), as this is an annual process and does require application.  Where we rely on such consent, this  can be withdrawn at any time by contacting the Manx Utilities Data Protection Officer
  • Where it is in the public interest we will provide historic and current utilities information for housing or land purchases
